Mr. Huston “Don” Palmer age 83 of Dalton, GA passed away Tuesday May 12, 2026

Mr. Palmer was born January 19, 1943 in Round Mountain, AL to the late Huston and Carolyn Stancell Palmer. He was a retired truck driver and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bee keeping. He treasured spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his son, SSG David Palmer; granddaughter, Ansley Palmer; grandson, Tyler Palmer; siblings, Bobby Palmer, Marilyn Palmer, Jimmie Sweat, Phyllis Padgett, Becky Schilling, and Kim Blackmon; and the mother of his children, Ann Palmer.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Gulledge Palmer; children, Ricky (LeAnne) Palmer, Scott (Jennifer) Palmer, Rox Ann Palmer (Benny Humpherys), and Wendy Wofford; step-daughters, Jeletta (Kenny) Pinion, and Tressia (David) Arnold; siblings, Mike (Susan) Palmer, Patsy Elsberry, Martha (Duck) Reynolds, Linda (Raymond) Orr, Kathy (Bucky) Brown, and Marsha Uptain; 9 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. Palmer will take place at 11:00 AM Monday, May 18, 2026 at the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Palmer officiating. Interment will follow at United Memory Gardens in Dalton, GA with Ross Palmer, Gavin Palmer, Ricky Palmer, Scott Palmer, Benny Humphreys, and Adam Nelson serving as pall bearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nurses Shelia Ault, Rose & Derrick Floyd, and Channel Salazar.

The family will receive friends Monday from 9:00 AM until the service hour at the funeral home.

Rev. Ray Lue Teems, Obit. (M)

Rev. Ray Lue Teems, age 84, of Summerville, GA, died Monday, May 11, 2026, at Atrium Health Floyd.

Rev. Teems was born May 5, 1942, in Summerville, GA son of the late Arthur and Mary Etta Elam Teems.  He was a member of Fisher’s Chapel Church and prior to his retirement, was employed with the Chattooga County School System.

Known as “Preacher” to many, Rev. Teems preached at many churches and at many funerals over the years.  He loved preaching the Word of God and singing.  He also had a passion for the outdoors and loved gardening and riding on his golf cart.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Martha Kinsey Teems; siblings, Arthur Teems, Jr., Mildred Nichols, Margaret Corbin, Jewel Hall, Carolyn Evett, Leon Teems, Frances Brooks, Richard Teems, and Betty Ramey.

Survivors include his son, Jason (Dena) Teems; daughter, Emily (Michael) Gaddis; brothers, Ralph (Brenda) Teems, Jerry (Lisa) Teems, and Ricky (Sheri) Teems; sisters, Peggy Money and Susie Dawson; 6 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services for Rev. Teems will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Fisher’s Chapel Church with Pastor Mike White, Brian Kittle, and Christopher “Topher” Byrnes officiating.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Fisher’s Chapel  Church Cemetery Fund in Rev. Teems’ honor.

Mr. Thomas Robert Helton, Obit. (M)

Mr. Thomas Robert Helton, age 84, of Summerville, GA, died Monday, May 11, 2026, at his residence.

Mr. Helton was born September 26, 1941, in Trion, GA, son of the late Thomas Lee Helton and Nellie Jane Craig Helton.  He was a member and past councilman of Wayside Baptist Church.  He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served in Germany as a Sergeant First Class from 1960-1963.  Mr. Helton was also a past officer of the Friends of the Park at Sloppy Floyd State Park where he had also previously served as a board member.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Helton was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Brown Helton; several siblings and nephews.

Survivors include his sons, Steven Thomas Helton and Dayle Helton; daughter, Amy Michelle (Chris) McCleskey; a brother, Gary Hinton; sister, Margaret (Howard) Dillard; several step-sisters, nieces, and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 12:00 Noon Saturday, May 16, 2026, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Howell and Rev. Chris Gibson officiating.

There will be a gathering of family and friends at Mason Funeral Home from 11:00 A.M. until the hour of service on Saturday.

Mr. Michael Brian Baggett, Obit. (M)

Mr. Michael Brian Baggett, age 50, of Menlo, GA, died Monday, May 11, 2026, at his residence.

Mr. Baggett was born February 4, 1976, in LaFayette, GA, son of Allan Eugene Baggett and Carol Elizabeth Pritchett Brown.  He was Church of Christ by faith and was employed with Mohawk Industries.  Mr. Baggett was also an avid
fan of the Georgia Bulldogs.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Lonnie and Kathleen Baggett; maternal grandparents, John and Edna Pritchett; and a niece, Cassidy Alexis Gardner.

Survivors include his wife, Autumn Tucker Baggett; son, Brandan Michael Baggett; daughters, Michaela Rain Baggett, Brianna (Taylor) Ozment; mother, and step-father, Carol and Gary Newton Brown; father, Allan Baggett; sisters, Heather (Michael) Butler, Wendelin Brown; grandchildren, Braxton Culbert, Harper Culbert, Clinton Ozment, and Adeline Ozment; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Thursday, May 14, 2026, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Brandan Baggett, Heath Kilgore, Ronnie Kean, Blaze Hughes, Kelly Webb, and Chuck Cox.

Mr. Baggett will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Thursday.

Mrs. Natasha Michelle Anderson, Obit (C)

Mrs. Natasha Michelle Anderson, age 47 of Summerville, Georgia passed away at her residence on Friday, May 8, 2026.

Tasha was born in Rome, Georgia on November 24, 1978, daughter of the late Johnny “Buck” Roach and Jewel Dean Teems Roach.  She was a homemaker and lifelong resident of Chattooga County.  She enjoyed her family and raising her children.  She also enjoyed her dog and her jeep.
In addition to her parents, Tasha was preceded in death by her father-in-law, James “Bud” Anderson and special uncle, Wallace Money.
Tasha is survived by her husband, Larry Anderson; a son, Cameron Anderson; daughter, Sophia Anderson; sister, Cindy Evans; sister, Lisa Williamson; brother, Greg Williamson,; special aunt, Peggy Money; mother-in-law, Kathleen Anderson. sister-in-law, Debbie(Dennis) Stewart; sister-in-law, Judy(Ron) Baldwin; also a number of nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Tasha will be held Monday, May 11, 2026 where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.
According to the family’s wishes, a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Opel Lorene Cordell, age 84, of Gaylesville, AL, died Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at her residence.

Mrs. Cordell was born January 11, 1942, in Tinbrooke, AL, daughter of the late Raymond Luther Williamson and Ida Beatrice Childers.  She was a member of the Union Baptist Church.

She was a wonderful homemaker who loved her family, her church, and God.  She also loved the mountains and go-cart racing.  She was proud of her family and loved to tell everyone about her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cordell was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Cordell; a brother, Terry Raymond Williamson; and 6 grandchildren.

Survivors include her sons, Jeff Ray, Terry (Teresa) Ray; a daughter, Diane (Alvin) “Ditsey” Bullard; grandchildren, Andy (Megan) Ray, Ethan Ray, Kelsey (Brad) Ellis, and Leah (Mason) Marshall; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. (GA Time) Monday, May 11, 2026, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alvin Bullard and Rev. Ricky Bullard officiating.  Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Andy Ray, Ethan Ray, Kelsey Ellis, Brad Ellis, Leah Bullard-Marshall, and Mason Marshall.  Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Union Baptist Church.

Ms. Patricia “Tricia” Alexander- Headrick, Obit (M)

Ms. Patricia “Tricia” Alexander- Headrick, age 62 of Summerville, GA passed away Sunday, May 3, 2026, at a Chattanooga, TN healthcare facility.

Ms. Headrick was born August 22, 1963, in Rome, GA to the late Leroy Alexander, Jr. and Marjorie Keith Alexander. She graduated from Chattooga High School class of 1982, attended Summerville First Presbyterian Church and worked as a certified nursing assistant.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her brother, Michael “Mike” Alexander; and grandparents, Charles and Alma Keith, Thelma “Burr” Alexander, and LeeRoy Alexander; and aunt, Alta Faye Norman.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Kay Alexander; niece, Kaitlyn Alexander; nephew, Ross Alexander; great- nieces and nephews, Raylee, Kyzer, & Emmy Lamb; aunts and uncle, Dora Ann Lanier, Marie Cordell, and Charles Keith, Jr.; along with several cousins and friends.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Ms. Headrick will take place at 1:00 PM Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Joel Smith officiating.  Interment will follow at Summerville Cemetery with cousins Butch Lanier, Scott Lanier, Edwin Cordell, Steve Lively, and family friend Jerry Timmons serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service Saturday from 11:00 AM until the service hour.

Mrs. Mae Dorthene “Dot” Phillips, Obit. (M)

Mrs. Mae Dorthene “Dot” Phillips, age 81, of Menlo, GA, died Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at her residence.

Mrs. Phillips was born May 12, 1944, in Trion, GA, daughter of the late Paul Judson Brown and Hester Ann Elizabeth Stancil Brown.  Prior to her retirement, she was employed with Mount Vernon Mills.  Mrs. Phillips was a member of the Teloga Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Christmas Play Director, and Children’s Activity Leader since 1973.  She was also considered the “mother of the church.”  Mrs. Phillips was a wonderful cook, an avid canner, and a great seamstress.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Edward Phillips; brothers, Hoyt Brown, J.W. Brown, James Brown, Alvin Brown, Sammy Brown, Gerald Brown, Dennis Brown, and Stevie Brown; sisters, Grace Ingle, Glenda Ann Wood; 2 grandsons; and 2 granddaughters.

Survivors include her sons, Eddie (Ginger) Phillips, Rickey (Lisa) Phillips; daughters, Karen (Robert) Garrett, Barbie (Tommy) Strawn, and Sandy Phillips; sisters, Patricia (Ives) Harris and Tammy Brown; grandchildren, Kristy McCullars, Craig Garrett, Brian (Kimber) Garrett, Timothy (Raphaela) Garrett, Marie Garrett, Lawson Garrett, Ashley Nelson, Jenna (Keith) James, Lauren Lough, Patrick (Alyssa) Strawn, Kristin (Ryan) Wilson, and Kolby (Larrisa) Smith; and 12 great-grandchildren

Funeral services for Mrs. Phillips will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 2, 2026, from the Teloga Baptist Church with Rev. Ives Harris, Rev. Tony Weaver, and Rev. Jake Morrison officiating.  Interment will follow in Garrett Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Lawson Garrett, Timothy Garrett, Ryan Wilson, Kolby Smith, Michael Lough, Mason Lough, and Brian Garrett.  Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Teloga Baptist Church as well as all of her other grandchildren.

Mrs. Phillips will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Friday, May 1, 2026.  She will also be in state at Teloga Baptist Church from 12:00 Noon until the hour of service on
Saturday.
