Trion BOE Member Resigns

A Trion Board of Education Member has resigned.  According to reports the resignation of Trion City Board of Education Member Chris Ray was read by Board Chairman Connie Witt at Monday’s meeting of the Trion Board of Education.  Ray was not present at the meeting.

Calhoun man arrested after Tennessee chase

Sevierville Police Department officers have arrested a Georgia man on numerous charges after he fled from officers in downtown Sevierville and was ultimately taken into custody in Jefferson County, Tenn.

David C. Semon, 30, of Calhoun, Ga., has been charged with numerous offenses, including vehicle theft, two counts of aggravated assault of a police officer with a vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a prohibited weapon, fugitive from justice, evading arrest, reckless endangerment, and criminal impersonation.

Mega Millions Increases

The jackpot in the multistate Mega Millions lottery drawing grew to $21 million for Friday night’s drawing.

None of the tickets sold for Tuesday’s $16 million drawing matched all five lotto numbers and the Mega Ball.

There were two second-prize winners from Tuesday night’s drawing, matching all five lotto numbers but not the Mega Ball number. Also, 13 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000.

The winning numbers from Tuesday’s drawing were: 1, 9, 10, 35, and 46. The Mega Ball number was 9.

Chattooga Countian Suing Walmart

The Summerville News is reporting that a Chattooga County woman is suing Wal-Mart Inc., after she slipped and fell inside the local store.

According to a lawsuit filed last Friday in the Chattooga County Superior Court.

Mary Ashworth alleges that she fell on Feb. 6, 2008 in the Pennville store, according to court records. She alleges that she slipped.

 “. . . the Plaintiff was an invitee in the Wal-Mart retail facility in Chattooga County when she slipped and fell on the floor due to negligence of the defendant in failing to keep the premises safe,” according to the lawsuit filed by Ashworth’s attorney Bobby Lee Cook. “The plaintiff sues to recover for all of her medical expenses, for her pain and suffering and for her permanent disability in the sum and amount of $150,000.”

Several Fire Calls Tuesday

The Summerville Fire Department had a busy day on Tuesday.  Several fire calls came in to the department, fortunately none were serious.

First, Summerville Firemen were called to the Summerville Middle School for a fire alarm call that proved to be nothing.

Then several fire calls were reported on Commerce Street.  A small fire was reported near the Pledger Mini Storage Building then another at Don Lolo’s and several other places.  At first it was believe that the fires were being set. 

However, Investigator Ozment with the Summerville Police Department told AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio that it is now believed the fires were caused by sparks from a truck that was pulling another truck up Commerce Street.

Trion City Board of Education has announced a Called Meeting to be held Wed., 1/28/2009 at 6:00 PM in the Trion High School Media Center.
 

 

Teen Health Forum

The Jobs for Georgia Graduates Program at Chattooga High School is hosting a Teen Health Forum on Thursday, January 22 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Chattooga County Civic Center. The forum will feature over 20 organizations from around Georgia that provide useful information on a variety of topics to the county teens. All area teens are urged to attend to take advantage of this opportunity
