Ft Payne Dancers on MTV

For years, Fort Payne’s Melissa Shores has taught and practiced her dancing. Tonight, she will showcase her talent to the world.

Dynamic Edition, made up of Shores, Cara Petrunich, Brandon Norris, Beth Petrunich and Katlin Allison, was selected from hundreds of dance groups from all over the nation to appear live as one of nine crews competing for the title of America’s Best Dance Crew.

“We are all so excited,” Shores said. “We weren’t expecting it at all.”
The show will air on MTV at 9, and is gearing up for a third season of dancing. The nine dance troops will compete for $100,000 and a touring contract.

America’s Best Dance Crew is known for showcasing hip-hop and break-dancers but Dynamic Edition is bringing a new flavor to the show: Hip-hop and clogging.

Shores is a clogging instructor at the Fort Payne School of Performing Arts.

The school’s owner Kelly Gwarjanski said she is proud of Shores.

“Melissa is super talented, and we are really lucky that she teaches with us,” Gwarjanski said.

Shores has taught with the school since 2001, and her clogging team holds national championship titles.

Shores said everyone is excited but nervous about performing on live television.

“We are a little out of our comfort zone,” Shores said. “Our style is completely different from what America’s Best Dance Crew is used to, but we hope it works in our favor.”

Gwarjanski would like to invite the Fort Payne community to come out and support the crew.

“I’ve organized a gathering at Wing Stop Thursday night for people who would like to come out and show support for Melissa and her team,” Gwarjanski said.

Gwarjanski said anyone interested is invited to come.

In the meantime, Shores said she and the others are enjoying the moment in sunny Los Angeles.

“We are having the time of our lives,” Shores said. “It truly is the experience of a lifetime.”

America’s Best Dance Crew will continue each Thursday at 9 p.m. on MTV. Mario Lopez is the host.

The park is located just east of Fort Payne, Ala., on Ala. 35.

Bundy said a promise was made several years ago to make improvements to the area.

“We want this to be a place where our friends and neighbors will be glad to come and be proud of,” Bundy said.

The majority of the improvements include repaving most of the entrance road and the parking area.
