William E. Colquitt Service

William E. "Bill" Colquitt, age 81, of Menlo, Georgia, died Sunday, January 17, 2010. 

Surviving are his sisters, Ann Colquitt Harper, Nashville, TN, Betty Colquitt, Menlo, GA; Nephews, Chuck Harper, Nashville, TN, Jeff Colquitt, College Park, GA, Keith Colquitt, Loganville, GA; and serveral cousins.

A Graveside service will be held at 2 PM (est) Wednesday, January 20th at the Bankhead Cemetary, Mentone, AL. 

Family and friends are invited to the residence for viewing on Wednesday from 12 noon until 1:30pm.

Donehoo-Lewis Funeral Home, Hapeville, GA  is incharge of arrangements.

Financial Aid Meeting at THS

On February 16th at 6 PM Trion High School will be holding a meeting in the high school media center for all Seniors and their parents.

This meeting will be an informative one touching on the topic of financial aid.  All Seniors should make it a point to come to the meeting and get some helpful tips and funds to help the get a college education.

 

DFCS Board Meeting

The Chattooga County Department of Family and Childrens Services will hold it’s regular monthly board meeting tommorrow, Wednesday January 20th in the conference room of the local agency.  The meeting will be held at 10 AM.

Redmond Recognized For Patient Safety

The Partnership for Health and Accountability has presented its prestigious Quality and Patient Safety Award to Redmond Regional Medical Center for its project that reduced infection control risks through effective rounding. The project titled, “Reducing Patients’ and Employees’ Environmental and Infection Control Risks through Effective Rounding,” won third place in the Hospitals with 100 to 299 Beds Category.

Redmond was also presented with a Circle of Excellence Award, an honor given to hospitals that have demonstrated a sustained commitment to quality and patient safety as evidenced by not only winning a patient safety award in 2009, but also by earning three or more PHA Patient Safety Awards within the previous five years. These annual awards recognize Georgia health care organizations for achievement in reducing the risk of medical errors and improving patient safety and medical outcomes

Wreck on 337

Reports indicated that an accident occured yesterday afternoon on Highway 337 near where the road is washed out.  While the road is closed to through traffic, local traffic is being allowed.  Highway 337 was closed Saturday night after a Chattooga County Deputy found that the road had dropped nearly 18 inches due to a culvert washing out.  There was no one injured in the accident on Monday.

Another accident occured in the same area – this one on Shinbone Valley Road.  Law enforcement officials say that a concret truck overturned after hitting an icy patch that was still on the roadway.

 

Cedar Bluff Officials Looking for Vehicle

Authorities are currently searching for a vehicle – a pick-up truck – wanted in connection with a number of burglaries occurring recently in the Cedar Bluff area.

The vehicle was last seen in the area of Highway 9 North, after the most recent attempt at theft was averted thanks to alert and concerned citizens with the Lawrence Neighborhood Watch Group.

Cedar Bluff Police would like to stress that Neighborhood Watch Programs do work, and residents are encouraged to contact their local Police Department, for information on how to start their own program.

Anyone with any information regarding the recent rash of burglaries, taking place both in Cedar Bluff and in the surrounding areas over the last couple of months, is encouraged to contact the Cedar Bluff Police Department at (256) 779-6835.
