Altercation At McDonalds Leads To Charges

A Chattooga County woman facing charges after an altercation at McDonalds.

According to the report, Chattooga County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a fight in progress at McDonalds Friday night. Once they arrived, 39-year-old Jennifer Michelle Lesperance told them she had gotten into a physical altercation with her daughter over rent money.

The woman's daughter said her mother hit her in the face and pushed her down to the ground and got on top of her. The daughter said she told her mother  they would settle the issue over the phone but she came up there anyway. The incident reportedly occurred near the drive thru. Witnesses reportedly conveyed the same story, according to the report.

The report indicated that the daughter had red marks around her neck and her inner lip was busted and bleeding. The deputy reported that text messages on Lesperance's phone from her daughter verified the daughter's account .

Lesperance was taken to the Chattooga County Jail charged with disorderly conduct.

West Rome Salvation Army Closing Friday

The Salvation Army Store in West Rome will be closing its doors forever this Friday.

According to the Salvation Army’s Facebook Page, tough economic times are to blame for the store’s closure, which has stood off of Shorter Avenue in West Rome for 12 years. Their central store on 2nd Avenue will remain open, and will undergo renovations in coming months to make room for more merchandise.

Due to staff restructuring, the charity group was thankfully able to offer a position to each team member that wished to remain in the company.

The Salvation Army relies on the sales from their stores to fund their many programs, and everything that is donated to a Rome store, is sold in a Rome store.

His announcement, made at the 11th District Republican Convention, is not exactly a surprise to many; Due to election laws, he has held back on his formal proclamation, but he did make his intentions known back in early April to the media in Rome.

Loudermilk will have some steep competition for Gingrey’s seat 11th congressional seat— 2008 Libertarian candidate for President, Bob Barr and State Rep. Ed Lindsey (R-Buckhead) have also announced their GOP candidacy for the post.

State Court Convenes This Week

State Court will convene today in Chattooga County.  State Court Solicitor Buddy Hill had several cases continued by Judge Sam Finster earlier this after other attorneys pointed out that Hill was not to be representing clients in state court under current state law.  That law has now changed.  The Georgia General Assembly passed a bill that will allow part-time solicitors such as Mr. Hill to represent clients in civil claims, but not criminal claims.

The bill’s language says, “(it will) provide that a part-time solicitor-general of the state court and any part-time assistant solicitor-general may engage in the private practice of law but shall not represent defendants in criminal matters in such solicitor-general's state court; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.”

The bill was sponsored in part by both State Senator Jeff Mullis and State Senator Chuck Hufstetler who represent Chattooga County.  State Representative Eddie Lumsden, who represents Chattooga and Floyd Counties said that he did not receive any comments from any constituents in Floyd or Chattooga Counties concerning the legislation, but did vote in favor of it when it was presented to the House.

The new law will go into effect on July 1st.  Chattooga County Clerk of Court Lan Cordell told AM 1180 that none of Solicitor Hill’s cases that were continued by Judge Finster will be on the docket in this week’s session of state court.
