The second annual Chattooga Tribe Challenge was held yesterday in downtown Summerville. AM 1180 broadcast live from Dowdy Park with Ben Groce and Bonnie Kinnamont bringing updates throughout the morning. The overall winner for the Chattooga Tribe Challenge was Chattooga High School Senior Damion Porter. Damion's official time for the 5K Road Race was 17 minutes and 42 seconds.
Chattooga County School Superintendent Jimmy Lenderman said that the event will help all Chattooga County athletic programs and the band program at the high school. Lenderman told Ben Groce on AM 1180 yesterday, "it is important that we make sure all of our students have the opportunity to participate in athletics - and that includes all athletics not just football, but cheer leading, band, volleyball - and if they can't afford (the equipment or fees) we are going to find a way to get that for them."
The Chattooga Tribe Challenge is just one of the fund raising events for Chattooga High Athletics. Later this year the Chattooga Century Bike Ride will take place which will benefit CHS Athletics as well.
Listed below are the winners in each category:
