Georgians experiencing a mental health or addiction crisis now have a new hotline they can call for help. The 988 number is designed to quickly connect callers to trained telephone counselors who can triage the caller’s needs and secure additional phone or in-person mental health resources if needed.
A Mountain View woman was arrested last week after she was accused of battery under the Family Violence Act. According to a report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office released late last week, deputies responded after a call regarding a domestic in progress. When they arrived on the scene, the complainant said that his wife had been drinking and had assaulted him during a confrontation over allowing dogs to mate. The complainant said that the woman didn’t want the dogs mating and had become violent. Deputies observed scratches on the complainant and saw video of the assault that was taken by a witness. Vanessa West was arrested and charged with battery under the Family Violence Act and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail on Monday of last week.
A thirty-year-old Summerville woman was arrested and charged with theft of services at a C Street address in Summerville last week.

Security will be enhanced as students return to class at Rome High School today after two incidents last week when juveniles brought loaded, stolen weapons to school with them.
A Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to the McDonald’s restaurant parking lot last week to speak with a complainant who said a handgun had been stolen from his vehicle. According to the report from the sheriff’s office, the complainant said that he left his Taurus 380 handgun in the floorboard of his Honda CRV in front of McDonald’s early on Thursday morning. When he returned to the vehicle, the complainant noticed that the handgun was missing. Surveillance cameras from McDonald’s did not reveal who might have stolen the handgun. The firearm was listed as stolen by the sheriff’s office and the incident was turned over to an investigator.
