
The Northwest Georgia Center for Independent Living aims to engage locals in a conversation on mental health in a virtual Town Hall slated for Thursday, March 30th.
The Summerville City Council will hold a meeting this evening at 5 PM at Summerville City Hall. There will be a question and answer session with the mayor and city council at 4:30 PM and the regular meeting starts immediately thereafter. The public is welcome to attend. The Sara Hightower Regional Library System, in partnership with the University of West Georgia’s Center for Economic Education and Financial Literacy (CEEFL), has received a $50,000 grant from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Foundation. Grant funds will be used to create and present financial literacy resources and programming for Floyd, Polk, and Chattooga Counties.

The Calhoun Police Department in neighboring Gordon County, says that a juvenile teenager was taken into custody in connection with a shooting on Thursday of this past week. Calhoun Police say that the shooting happened around 10 AM at the Calhoun Lodge Apartments. The shooting victim’s name has not been identified, but was transported to the hospital after being shot in the stomach. Police say the shooting victim is expected to recover. After a brief search, the fifteen-year-old suspected shooter was taken into custody.
If you plan to be traveling I-24 in Dade County on Monday, you will want to be aware that the Georgia D.O.T. is planning a resurfacing project. According to the Georgia D.O.T. the work will require the closing of the right eastbound lane of I-24 in Northwest Georgia between mileposts 3 and 4. Motorist should expect delays in the area. The work will be taking place between 9 AM and 5 PM, weather permitting, according to the D.O.T.
A bill pending in the Georgia General Assembly would exempt health care providers looking to build medical facilities from certificates of need if they plan to open up in rural Georgia counties with less than 50,000 people.
The Trion Police Department and Chief David Gilleland are sponsoring a leadership training event that will be held at Living Life On Target in Summerville. The three-day event is meant build personal leadership and make law enforcement officers better equipped to lead and motivate. The event will focus on mental wellness, communication and collaboration. The meetings will be held February 22-24 from 8 AM – 5 PM.
