Georgia gas prices continued to decline at the pump compared to a week ago. Georgia drivers are now paying an average price of $3.25 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight). Monday’s state average was 9 cents less than a week ago, 28 cents more than a month ago, and 8 cents less than this time last year. It now costs $48.75 to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline. Drivers are now paying at least $1.00 less to fill up at the pump compared to a year ago.

Communities across the state are planting trees and recognizing their benefits this month for Georgia’s Arbor Day. The day is observed annually on the third Friday in February, which this year falls on Friday, February 17.
Calhoun Police Chief Tony Pyle says that a fifteen-year-old juvenile was shot at Walmart in Calhoun on Saturday. The police chief told the Calhoun Times that he believes that the teen was involved in an altercation with some other teens from Rome. The wounded teenager was shot in the femoral artery and was transported to a Chattanooga hospital for surgery. It does not appear that his injuries are life-threatening. Police Chief Pyle says that the incident may have been gang related and said that the shooting incident is still under investigation.

A meeting for parents of middle school students interested in trying out for cheer leading will be held at the Leroy Massey Elementary School cafeteria on Monday, February 27, 2023 at 6 PM. Tryouts for middle school cheer leading will be held Monday, March 20 – Friday, March 24 from 4:30 – 6:30 PM. Students interested in cheer leading must have a current physical, 3 teacher recommendations and a copy of their insurance card. A thirty-eight-year-old Chattooga County man was jailed in Floyd County over the weekend. According to arrest records, Jarvis Jamal Johnson of a Peppermint Place, Summerville address was arrested by Floyd County Police on a felony probation violation and was booked into the Floyd County Jail.
On Saturday, Feb. 18, at 2 pm, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will present a special 45-minute ranger-led program exploring the events of Cherokee Removal and the subsequent arrival of the railroads in Southeastern Tennessee and Northwestern Georgia.
