Chattooga Young Farmer’s Meeting For October

The Chattooga Young Farmers have scheduled their monthly meeting for October, to be held on Thursday, October 19th at the Chattooga County Ag Building, located on Middle School Drive in Summerville. Wright’s Meat Processing, located in Subligna, will be on hand to talk about maximizing your beef to be processed.  The meeting will feature a meal of beef tips and rice, green beans, potatoes and dessert.  If you plan to attend you should RSVP to Chattooga Young Farmer Director Lauren Jarrett by Tuesday, October 17th.

October Chamber Meeting To Feature Red Cross

The October meeting of the Chattooga County Chamber will feature representatives from the American Red Cross.  Linda Jennings and Carla Maton will speak at the Chamber luncheon which will be held on October 17th.  The public is invited to attend, but you must RSVP in advance.  The cost is $12 for Chamber members and $17 for non-members.  You can find a link to register for the meeting Here

Ray Smith Named Assistant Director of Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites

Madison County native Ray Smith has been promoted to Assistant Director for Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites, a Division of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). For the last three years, Smith has been the Region Supervisor for the Thomson region of Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites.

Woman Arrested For Trespassing

A twenty-six-year-old woman was arrested on Wednesday by Summerville Police after she was found at a residence on Hawkins Drive.  According to police, Jodecia Elizabeth Kaylee Walker had been warned before about being at the residence.  Walker was arrested and booked into the Chattooga County Jail on trespass charges.

Fatal Accident On Highway 27 On Friday

An accident on Highway 27 in the Gore community on Friday ended with fatalities.  The accident shut down traffic on Highway 27 on Friday afternoon for a period of time.  The Georgia State Patrol confirmed to WZQZ on Friday evening that their were fatalities as a result of the accident.  According to reports, the accident took the life of Lori McWhorter.  McWhorter was employed with LaFayette High School.  The school issued a statement on Friday evening saying, “It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mrs. Lori McWhorter, a cherished member of our Walker County Schools and LaFayette High School community. Mrs. McWhorter was a revered teacher, a devoted mother, and a loving wife, whose sudden and tragic loss leaves an irreplaceable void in our community”.  WZQZ will have more details on the accident when they are released by the Georgia State Patrol.   You can read the complete statement from the Walker County School system below:
