Local Scouts “Scouting For Food” This Weekend

Local Scouts will be having a food collection event this coming Saturday in Summerville. Pack 38, Troop 7B, and Troop 7G will be collecting non perishable items thru a Drive Thru Collection site on Saturday Feb 10 from 10 AM until Noon on Ralph Stanley Drive between the Scout Hut and the Tennis Courts.  The food collected will be donated to the Community Resource Center of Chattooga County.  You can see a list of the most-needed items below:

Vietnam War Veterans Day Program Next Month

Friday, March 29, 2024 is a national holiday recognizing Vietnam War Veterans Day. This marks the 51st year since the last combat troops left Vietnam.  During the war, 9 million men and women served in the US armed forces. Of those veterans, 234,000 were from Georgia.

Mother & Son Arrested During Traffic Stop In Summerville

A forty-three-year-old woman and her seventeen-year-old son were arrested by Summerville Police after a traffic stop on Tuesday.  Police say that they stopped the vehicle that was being driven by Jordan Grady Roan for traffic violations.

There’s Hope for the Hungry will be at Central Avenue Baptist Church in Trion today to give away free groceries. Come between the hours of 10:00 am and 1:00 pm to get your free groceries. No ID is required. But you must be present to receive the food.  The church is located at 14074 Highway 27 in Trion.

Commissioner Differs With County Attorney’s Opinion About Subdivision Ordinance

Audio of an exchange between Republican candidate for commissioner Andy Allen and Chattooga County’s Attorney Chris Corbin indicates that the subdivision ordinance adopted by Commissioner Blake Elsberry does not protect property buyers.  The commissioner says that he differs with the county attorney’s opinion about the ordinance.

SongFarmers Of Summerville Meeting Saturday

The SongFarmers of Summerville will be meeting this Saturday, February 10, 2024 from 1 PM until 4 PM at the Fairway Recreation Center on Senior Drive in Summerville.  The free event will feature old-fashioned “front-porch pickin’ “.  Musicians are invited to bring their instrument and join in and audience participation is always encouraged.  Reita’s Fried Pies will be on hand and there will be homemade ice cream, Brunswick stew and chili.  Everyone is invited to attend.
