A seventeen-year-old Chattooga County teen was arrested after an off-duty drug task force agent saw him driving erratically in the Mountain View area and reported it to the sheriff’s office. A Chattooga County Deputy stopped Jayce Alan Lee Atkins after observing the vehicle he was driving weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed on Highway 27 and entering Wendy’s parking lot in the exit lane. Atkins admitted to the deputy that he had “been doing burnouts and was driving at a high rate of speed”. While searching the vehicle, the deputy found a loaded 9mm handgun and discovered that Atkins had a warrant in Floyd County for hit and run. Atkins was arrested and booked into the Chattooga County Jail on Friday of last week and charged with possession of a handgun by a person under the age of 18, reckless driving and other driving violations.
A sixty-four-year-old Chattooga County man was arrested twice in a three-day time period over the past weekend. Deputies were called to the the Great Way Food Mart on Highway 27 on Friday evening of last week after a clerk at the store got into an altercation with the suspect. When deputies approached Howard Keith Thompson, who was standing in the corner of the store, he began to talk incoherently about someone with a mask. Attempts to reason with Thompson ended in his arrest on charges of willful obstruction of law enforcement. Then, on Sunday morning around 11:30 AM, Thompson was stopped by a Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deputy and was subsequently charged with DUI for Drugs and driving on a suspended or revoked license and was once again booked into the Chattooga County Jail.
