Contractor Reports Theft To Sheriff’s Office

A local contractor reported the theft of several items to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office on January 28th.  Junior Villeda with Villeda Concrete told a responding deputy that someone had broken into a trailer that he used store tools and material on the Lyerly Highway.  Villeda said that the thieves took three Husqvarna chainsaws, a Stihl chainsaw and a 70″ television from the trailer.  The responding deputy said that he saw several marks on the door where it appeared someone had pried the door open.  In all, the missing items totaled $2600.  The incident was referred to an investigator with the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office.

Trion Pre-K Registration

Pre-K registration for Trion Elementary School begins Tuesday, February 20th for all students wishing to enroll in the 2024-2025 school year. Parents/Legal Guardians may stop by the elementary office beginning February 20th to pick up enrollment packets and turn in required documentation.

Republicans Holding Secret Vetting Meeting On Saturday

On Saturday, the Chattooga County Republican Party will be holding a meeting for the purpose of vetting local candidates who wish to run in the May Republican Primary.  The party ran an advertisement in yesterday’s local paper saying that the public and the media are barred from the meeting.

Domestic Dispute Leads To DUI For Drugs Arrest

A twenty-year-old woman was arrested on DUI for drug charges after a call to the sheriff’s office about a dispute the woman had with her boyfriend.  Deputies responded to the call on Highway 27 near Dirt Town Deli on January 25th shortly after 7:30 in the morning.  Sidney Lee Brooks told the deputy that she and her boyfriend had gotten into an argument and he got out of the car and left.  While speaking with Brooks, the officer detected the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle.  After a field sobriety test, Brooks was arrested and charged with DUI for drugs and possession of marijuana less than one ounce.

Sub Delight Has New Owners

Sub Delight in Summerville has new owners.  Mark and Amanda Schrader have announced that they have sold the restaurant that they have operated for the past five years.  Sub Delight was originally opened in Summerville in 1998 and has maintained a loyal lunch crowd over the years.  Mark Schrader, Sheriff of Chattooga County, says that he and his wife Amanda started dating after meeting at Sub Delight years ago and says that owning the restaurant has been a good experience for their family.  The new owners are Angela and Jamey Tatum.  The Tatum’s take over the restaurant starting today, Thursday, February 1, 2024.
