On Saturday, the Chattooga County Republican Party will be holding a meeting for the purpose of vetting local candidates who wish to run in the May Republican Primary.  The party ran an advertisement in yesterday’s local paper saying that the public and the media are barred from the meeting.

Five people, selected by the local party, will decide who is “conservative” enough to appear on the ballot in May.  The vetting committee will be grilling new candidates and incumbents who are already in office as well.

Exactly what questions the vetting committee will ask is unclear.  Also, it is unclear if a candidate wishes to run as a Republican and the local party doesn’t give them a stamp of approval, if that person can appeal the local vetting process.

The meeting is being held at the Chattooga County Senior Center between 9 AM and 3:30 PM February 3, 2024.
