Guardian Insurance Partners Agent Adam Lee and Allen Keen Realty are sponsoring an Easter Egg hunt coming up this morning at the park in Menlo. Children will have a chance to find 1,000 Easter eggs. Some of those eggs can be redeemed for prizes. Children through the fifth grade are welcome to attend the free event. A photographer will be on had as well as the Easter Bunny. The event will take place at 11 AM today.
The General Assembly gave final passage to a $36.1 billion fiscal 2025 state budget Thursday night, including raises for state employees and public school teachers as well as an 11th-hour influx of funding for Georgia’s Pre-Kindergarten program. The spending plan, which passed the state House 175-1 and the Senate 54-1 in the final hours of this year’s legislative session, represents an increase of $3.7 billion over the fiscal 2024 budget lawmakers adopted last spring.

Mrs. Sherrie Lynn McWhorter Thrasher, age 51 of Summerville, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2024 in an Atlanta hospital.
Sherrie was born in Rome, Georgia on June 22, 1972, daughter of Ralph Edward McWhorter and Vickie Lynn Smith McWhorter. She was a member of the Dry Valley Baptist Church, where she was a member of the New Millennium Sunday School Class, and was the Director of Revenue Cycle at Atrium Floyd Health. Sherrie was a graduate of Trion High School, where she played Tennis and was a member of the band. She loved to sing and had traveled with her family singing for many years. She loved the Lord and her church family and had started teaching Sunday School at the age of 15. Sherrie received her Bachelor’s of Business and her Master’s in Business Health Care from Shorter College. Some of her additional hobbies included shopping, spending time with her family, traveling, collecting shoes and being with her furbaby, Char-Char. Sherrie was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents, Rev. Johnny and Betty Smith and Rev. Emory and Jenny Lee Payne.
Sherrie is survived by her husband, Tracy Thrasher; son, Gavin Blocker; daughter, Jordan Thrasher; parents, Ralph and Vickie McWhorter; sister, Candie McWhorter; brothers and sister-in-law, Jason and Wendy McWhorter and William McWhorter; and a number of additional family members and friends.
Funeral Services for Sherrie will be held Sunday, March 31, 2024 at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Lee Hickman and Rev. Terry Hampton officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chris Smith, Josh Dodson, Lamar Pettyjohn, Sam Cotroneo, Dillon Thrasher, Simon Veatch and Seth Veatch. Honorary Pallbearers will be the New Millennium Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
