A father and daughter that were deer hunting near Carter’s Lake over the weekend shot and killed a 520 lb. black bear.   The bear measured 7 ft. 5".

According to Georgia Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Biologist Adam Hammond, the largest black bear in Georgia weighed 581-pounds and was killed by a vehicle in Union County in 1992.  He said that state Natural Resources officials are unsure as to the exact population of bears in Northwest Georgia, but that the population is growing and this is the season for bears.

Georgia hunters that purchase a big game tag are allowed to kill one bear per year across the state this year.  Reports indicate that a 330 lb. black bear was killed in Chattooga County on Saturday on Lookout Mtn. near Cloudland.
