Mrs. Neva Isabell Starnes passed away Thursday, September 10, 2020 at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Summerville, Georgia.
Neva, or “Nan” as she was known by many, did not want a traditional funeral service and requested a memorial service with “lots of singing and a meal” be held at a later date. Because Nan passed while pandemic restrictions were in place, the memorial service was delayed until this year.
Neva was born April 10, 1929 in Laclede County, Missouri, daughter of Ellis and Lula Bell Armstrong. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, one brother and two sisters. Also preceding her in death were her daughter Beverly M. Holbrook, her great-grandson Joshua Marlin Hall and her husband of sixty-nine years, Rev. Marlin L. Starnes.
Neva is survived by her grandchildren Tammy and Mike Cupp of Laurel Fork, Virginia; Jimmy and Maria Holbrook of Lyerly, Georgia, Shane Holbrook and Stacey of Hillsboro, Missouri and Elizabeth Holbrook of Austin, Texas; also surviving: her great-granddaughter Alissa Cruz and great-great-granddaughters Analia and Rory Cruz and her son-in-law Lebron and Helen Holbrook of Fredericktown Missouri.
The family of Neva Starnes invites all friends and family to a memorial service that will be held this Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 11 AM at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at Cloudland, with a fellowship meal to follow. Those in attendance are welcomed to bring a side-dish or dessert for the meal.
Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at Cloudland is located about a mile north of the Chattooga / Walker County line at 26692 Highway 157. (7.5 miles from the caution light at the intersection of Highway 48 and Highway 157).
