
Well as often been the case over the past couple of winters, Chattooga County was 2 or 3 degrees too warm and missed out on a snow forecast.
Light rain moved through the area last night while temperatures hovered around 34 to 35 here in the valley which resulted in a really cold rain. Areas in northern Alabama were quite different as there were widespread reports of 1-2+” and isolated spots of heavier accumulations near the Huntsville area.
Early this morning Chattooga County EMA is reporting icy road conditions in the Cloudland area as well as several trees down which are blocking roadways. Chattooga County EMA is reporting a tree down on Highway 48 and Shinbone Valley Road in Menlo that is completely blocking the roadway. There is also a tree blocking one lane of Highway 114 in the area of Larks Lane and a tree partially blocking traffic in the 100 block of Plum Street in Trion.
Cherokee County AL EMA received reports early this morning of roads becoming impassable in the northern areas of Cherokee County including AL Hwy 35 from blanch to the county line as well as several county roads in the Gaylesville and Broomtown areas.
Please use caution traveling on the roads this morning especially in the higher elevations of the county.
