Chattooga High School has a new head coach and it’s a name many in Chattooga County will recognize. On Thursday evening, the Chattooga County School System announced that Roone Gable will be new head football coach of the Chattooga Indians. Gable had served as offensive coordinator for the past three seasons at Trion High School. Gable will be the 17th head coach for the Indians since the school system consolidated in 1961.
Gable is a 1992 graduate of Trion High School. He coached with his father, long time Trion head coach Tab Gable, at Lafayette High School before returning to Trion to join former head coach Justin Brown’s staff where he coached several different positions before being promoted to defensive coordinator.
Upon current Trion head coach Sean Patrick’s arrival in 2020, Gable was named offensive coordinator and has served in that capacity since. Under Gable’s tutelage, the Trion offense broke several school records and ranked near the top in many offensive categories over the past two seasons as the Bulldog’s offense averaged over 36 points per game in 2022 and 41 points per game in 2021.
Gable will be taking over the Chattooga program from former head coach Shawn Peek who departed at the conclusion of last season. Coach Peek was the head coach for three seasons at Chattooga compiling a record of 10-21-0 during his career there.
Coach Gable and his wife Stacey along with their children currently live in Trion. Gable also serves as a deacon at Trion First Baptist Church.
