A meeting will take place on Monday, March 7 at the Chattooga County Civic Center to talk with potential volunteers for a new Veterans Service Office in Chattooga County. The office will be located in the courthouse and will be staffed by part-time volunteers who are willing to help staff the office. A Veterans Service representative from LaFayette will be in the office one to two days a week.
Commissioner Jason WInters told AM 1180 that the model proposed for Chattooga County is being looked at by state officials as a possible answer for short-staffed veterans service offices in other parts of the state. Winters and State Representative Barbara Massey Reece have been working to get the office in Summerville and say that the office will be a benefit to the 2,400 veterans that live in Chattooga County.
Winters said that any veterans or spouses of veterans that have experiene in dealing with the paperwork required for veterans benefits are encouraged to attend the meeting. The meeting will be held at 10 AM on Monday morning at the Chattooga County Civic Center.
