A man went to jail over the past weekend after he ran a red light in downtown Summerville and was subsequently found to be in possession of drugs.
This past Sunday, a black Hyundai was pulled over at the Summerville Family Dollar for running a red light. The driver of the vehicle, 25-year-old Landon Bennet, stated that he thought it was just safer to go on through the red light instead of stopping. While talking with Bennet, the deputy noticed an odor of marijuana emitting from his vehicle. Another officer performed a Field Sobriety test on Bennet while the deputy searched his car. A glass jar was found in the vehicle with a plastic bag of white substance in it, believed to be methamphetamine.
Bennet admitted that the meth was his and was then placed under arrest. At that point, he admitted to having a bag of marijuana on him and told the deputy that he didn’t want to get a crossing the guard lines charge when he went to jail.
Bennet handed the deputy the marijuana and was transported to the Chattooga County jail.
