This past Saturday, a Chattooga County deputy had pulled a driver over in the parking lot of Mason’s funeral home due to the man possibly driving under the influence. Bernard Bostic admitted to the deputies that he had smoked marijuana an hour prior to being pulled over. It was observed by deputies after speaking with Bostic that his eyes were blood shot, he had droopy eyelids, and pin point pupils with no reaction to light. Bostic agreed to do a field sobriety test, which he failed. He was then placed under arrest and then admitted that he had done cocaine and got high before his road trip and was not drunk. Bostic was then told he was under arrest for DUI drug impairment.

Last Saturday, a Chattooga County deputy pulled a vehicle over in a lot at the intersection of Rossville Boulevard for driving on the wrong side of the roadway. As the deputy was listening to the driver explain that he had just finished cutting a client’s hair and was heading back home, he noticed that the man’s eyes were bloodshot and that he was acting as if he was tired. The driver, sixty-one-year-old Jeffrey Don Hughes failed a field sobriety test and was placed under arrest. When asked about an alcohol blood test, Hughes told the deputy, “there shouldn’t be any reason you need my blood”.  An open container of alcohol was found inside the vehicle, and Hughes was booked into the Chattooga County Jail and was charged with DUI for alcohol, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, failure to signal and open container of alcohol.

A Chattooga County deputy was dispatched to a home in Back Berryton Road last Friday after a woman had claimed she had not been home all day but that her boyfriend was there threatening to break all of her stuff in her home. The woman said that 42-year-old Ronald Lee lived with her and that he had been drinking all day and was texting her.

A Chattooga County deputy was called out to Walmart last Friday in reference to a female who had shoplifted. The responding deputy talked to the loss prevention worker about 27-year-old Teresa Rich, who was accused of shoplifting. The deputy was shown video footage of Rich taking a tag off of a shirt and placing it on another shirt for the benefit of getting it at a lower cost. The video also showed Rich skip scanning multiple items. The items not paid for totaled up to be $195.51. Teresa Rich was then placed under arrest for theft by conversion and theft by shoplifting.

A twenty-one-year-old inmate at the Chattooga County Jail, who was originally arrested for failing to register correctly as a sex offender, was additionally charged with interference with government property.  Jail officials say that Taylor Dakota Blackmon ripped apart a mat inside his cell and pulled the stuffing out of it. Blackmon received another mat and ripped it open as well. Blackmon then pulled some of the stuffing out of that mat and crawled inside of it. Blackmon was found sleeping inside of the mat. The jail staff took pictures of the damaged mat. Blackmon was then charged with criminal interference of government property.

A forty-six-year-old Chattooga County man wound up behind bars after he showed up in State Court Judge Jon Dennis’ courtroom last week and admitted that he had been drinking.
