The Centre, Alabama Police Department has announced the arrest of David Akin and Beverly Akin, both of Centre, following a Grand Jury indictment on charges of Theft of Property in the First Degree.

According to the department, the case began in late September when police received a report of missing funds from the Cherokee County Youth Football League. Investigators with Centre Police launched an inquiry into the alleged financial discrepancies, which ultimately uncovered what officials describe as a substantial amount of misappropriated money.

The findings of that investigation were presented to a Cherokee County Grand Jury in early November. After reviewing the evidence, the Grand Jury determined there was sufficient cause to formally charge both David and Beverly Akin with felony theft.

Centre Police emphasize that the investigation followed proper procedure and that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
