The Walker County Animal Shelter is partnering once again with the BISSELL Pet Foundation to bring holiday cheer to homeless pets. The shelter is one of 300 locations across the country taking part in the Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope adoption event, running December 1st through 15th.
As part of the campaign, the shelter will waive adoption fees for adult dogs and cats over four months old. Puppies and kittens under four months can be adopted for just $25, with all reduced fees made possible through sponsorship from the BISSELL Pet Foundation.
Located at 5488 North Marble Top Road near Chickamauga, the Walker County Animal Shelter is participating in its fourth Empty the Shelters event this year. So far, the program has helped the shelter place 149 animals into loving homes, and staff hope to find homes for at least 40 more pets during the upcoming 15-day event.
Shelter leaders say adoption not only gives an animal a home, but also frees space to help the next pet in need as shelters nationwide struggle with overcrowding. The facility is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and appointments are not required.
Residents can view adoptable animals on the county website at walkercountyga.gov/residents/animal-shelter.
Empty the Shelters is the nation’s largest funded adoption program, helping more than 374,000 pets find homes since 2016.
