It’s a Christmas tradition for many families across Chattooga County—and for visitors from Alabama and beyond—the live nativity at Alpine Community Church in Menlo.

Once again this year, families can make the short trip to Alpine and be transported back in time to the first Christmas in Bethlehem, with what many consider one of the best live nativity presentations anywhere in our area.

Alpine Community Church began hosting the live nativity more than 30 years ago as a way to share the true meaning of Christmas: the birth of Jesus Christ. And the experience doesn’t stop outside. Inside the church, visitors will find an impressive and festive sanctuary, highlighted by a lighted Christmas tree reaching close to the ceiling—about 20 feet tall. Alpine Community Church is also recognized as one of the oldest churches still standing in Chattooga County, adding even more history and meaning to the event.

The live nativity scene features Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, shepherds, and plenty of live animals, including goats, sheep, cows, and even camels—a favorite for children and families.

There is no charge to attend. Church members say the nativity is offered as a free gift to the community during the Christmas season.

The Alpine Live Nativity will be held December 23rd, 24th, and 25th, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. each night.
