Scouting America Troop 7 Hosting Open House In Summerville

Scouting America Troop 7 in Summerville is inviting local youth and families to an upcoming open house to learn more about scouting opportunities in the community.

The event will be held Monday, April 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the Scout Hut located at 220 Highway 100 in Summerville.

Organizers say the open house will give attendees a chance to meet current scouts and adult leaders, learn about camping and outdoor adventures, and explore leadership and service opportunities offered through the program. There will also be time to ask questions about joining Troop 7.

The event is open to youth ages 11 to 17, along with parents and guardians. No prior scouting experience is required.

Everyone is invited to come out and discover what Scouting America has to offer.

New Echota To Host Program On Cherokee Hunting Weapons

New Echota-Cherokee Capital State Historic Site in Calhoun will host “Stand Clear Weapons Are Here” on Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 1 until 2 p.m. at the Vann Tavern. Park rangers will present a program exploring the hunting culture of the Cherokee and the traditional weapons used in southeastern Native American hunting.

The program will highlight early hunting tools including rivercane blow guns, atlatl and darts, spears and lances, clubs, and knives. Visitors will also have the opportunity to try some of the weapons featured during the presentation.

Admission is $6 to $8 and includes access to the program, the museum, a self-guided walking tour of the historic grounds, and nature trails. New Echota is located one mile east of Interstate 75 at Exit 317 on Georgia Highway 225 North near Calhoun. For more information, call 706-624-1321.

Families in Chattooga County have a chance to celebrate the season today as the Easter Bunny makes a special appearance at Sloppy Floyd State Park.

The event, hosted by the Friends of Sloppy Floyd State Park, will take place from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the fire ring located in front of the park office.

Children will have the opportunity to take photos with the Easter Bunny at no cost, and each child will receive a treat bag during the event.

A $10 parking pass or an annual park pass is required per vehicle to enter the park. However, a limited number of parking passes are available for checkout at no cost through the Chattooga and Trion Libraries.

Organizers say the event is a great way for families to enjoy the outdoors and celebrate the Easter season together.

Families in Chattooga County are invited to celebrate Easter with a community egg hunt this weekend in Menlo.

The Easter Egg Hunt will take place on Saturday, March 28 at 10:00 a.m. at Menlo Park.

Organizers say the event is open to the public and encourages families to come out and enjoy a fun morning together.

The event is hosted by the Mayor and Menlo City Council, who wish everyone a Happy Easter.

The Town of Lyerly is inviting families to hop on over for its annual Easter celebration later this month at Angus McLeod Park.

The Lyerly Easter Egg Hunt will take place Saturday, March 28, at Angus McLeod Park, located at 5801 Highway 114 in Lyerly. The event is open to children ages 12 and under, with the egg hunt beginning promptly at noon.

Young participants will have the chance to search for colorful eggs hidden throughout the park. Organizers say special golden eggs will also be hidden in each age group, offering additional prize opportunities.

In addition to the hunt, children will have the opportunity to meet the Easter Bunny and take photos during the event.

Following the egg hunt, families are invited to stay and enjoy a free hot dog picnic.

Town officials encourage families to arrive early to make sure children are ready when the hunt begins.

Have you purchased your tickets yet? The 2026 Wings Over North Georgia (WONG) Air Show is just a month away and will take to the skies over Rome’s Russell Regional Airport on April 3rd and 4th. This year’s show will feature the world-famous U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, promising high-speed aerial maneuvers and precision flying that always draw large crowds from across Northwest Georgia and beyond.

John Cowman, President of JLC Airshow Management, says he is especially excited about opening day.
