A Summerville woman is facing additional felony charges after jail staff and deputies say illegal drugs were discovered inside the Chattooga County Jail earlier this month.
According to an incident report, deputies responded to the Chattooga County Jail on December 18, 2025, after receiving information that an inmate may have brought drugs into the facility. Jail officers and deputies conducted a search of the inmate, later identified as Dykeshia Shuntae Grizzard, 32, who was already being held at the jail.
Authorities say a small cellophane baggie containing a white crystal-like substance was located during a search. The substance was later field-tested and tested positive for methamphetamine and fentanyl, according to the report. Investigators state the evidence was collected and documented using body-worn cameras.
During questioning, the inmate was advised of her Miranda rights and allegedly admitted to bringing contraband into the jail, though officials say she initially denied having any additional items. A subsequent escort back to the holding area reportedly led to the discovery of another baggie concealed in a sock, which the inmate allegedly identified as fentanyl.
No other inmates were found to be in possession of contraband during additional searches, officials said.
As a result of the incident, Grizzard was charged with Possession of Schedule I Drugs, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Going Inside a Guard Line with Drugs.
