Residents across Chattooga County and Northwest Georgia can expect a stretch of quiet, sunny weather today, but officials are urging caution due to elevated fire danger conditions.
High pressure over the eastern United States is keeping skies mostly clear and temperatures comfortable, with afternoon highs reaching the mid 60s to low 70s across the region. While the tranquil weather is ideal for outdoor activities, dry air and low fuel moisture have increased the risk of wildfires—especially in areas along and north of the I-20 corridor, which includes much of Northwest Georgia.
A Fire Danger Statement remains in effect, and residents are strongly encouraged to avoid outdoor burning or use extreme caution if necessary.
Looking ahead, conditions will gradually shift as moisture returns to the area tonight into Monday. Winds from the southeast will bring higher humidity, with temperatures warming into the 70s Monday afternoon. Most areas will remain dry to start the week.
By midweek, a more active weather pattern develops. Daily chances for showers and thunderstorms are expected from Wednesday through the end of the week as warmer, more humid air settles over the region. While severe weather is not currently expected, forecasters will continue monitoring conditions.
For now, Northwest Georgia enjoys a calm start to the week—but with fire danger elevated, safety remains a top priority.
