Pickleball players in Walker County now have a new place to play, as four new courts have opened at Walker Rocks Park on the Walker County Civic Center campus.
County officials say these are the first pickleball courts located in unincorporated Walker County, marking a new addition for local recreation and outdoor activity.
The new courts are part of the third phase of improvements at Walker Rocks Park. Funding support came through a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant awarded to Walker County by the U.S. Department of the Interior’s National Park Service. The grant also helped support an expansion of the park’s inclusive playground.
Walker County invested 110-thousand dollars in the four new courts, which were constructed by Signature Tennis Courts of Woodstock.
More improvements are still on the way. County officials say the walking trail at the park is scheduled to be resurfaced later this spring, followed by a grand opening celebration for all of the new upgrades.
