Mrs. Omer Chitwood, age 99, of Summerville, GA died Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at her residence.

Mrs. Chitwood was born April 9, 1912 in Felton, GA, the daughter of the late John Thomas and Lavonia Swann Connell. She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Chitwood; daughter, Jo Ann Chitwood; son, John Arlin Chitwood; grandson, Tony Allen; granddaughter, Sarah Chambers; and sons-in-law, Sam Gossett and Bob Dooley.

Survivors include her children, Royce and Linda Chitwood, Leona and Bernard Shaw, Jewell Dooley, Marie Gossett, and Velma Allen; brother, Carl Connell; 13 Grandchildren; 22 Great Grandchildren; and 23 Great Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Friday, March 23, 2012 at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Howard Odom officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Grandsons and Great Grandsons.

Mrs. Chitwood will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Thursday, March 22, 2012.
