Georgia drivers are getting a little relief at the pump as gasoline prices begin to decline following a drop in crude oil prices. The decrease comes as concerns over potential global supply disruptions have eased, reducing the cost of producing gasoline.

AAA reports Georgia’s average price for regular unleaded is $3.87 per gallon, about five cents lower than last week. However, prices remain 30 cents higher than one month ago and 96 cents higher than this time last year. Filling a typical 15-gallon tank now costs about $58.05.

“While drivers are beginning to see lower prices at the pump, it’s still a good time to look for ways to save on fuel,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Global events can quickly impact oil and gas prices, and uncertainty surrounding the Middle East remains a factor to watch.”

Closer to home, AAA reports the average price of regular unleaded is $3.79 per gallon in Chattooga County, $3.78 in Floyd County, $3.80 in Gordon County, and $3.71 in Walker County. Across the state line, motorists are paying an average of $3.68 per gallon in Cherokee County, Alabama, and $3.69 in DeKalb County, Alabama.

Nationally, the average price for regular gasoline has slipped to $4.09 per gallon. Fuel prices often decline during August as summer travel slows and families return to school and work, although ongoing tensions in the Middle East could still affect oil markets in the weeks ahead.
