DeKalb County Hiring Event Set For June 25 In Fort Payne

Job seekers from across Northeast Alabama and Northwest Georgia will have an opportunity to connect with regional employers during the DeKalb County Hiring Event on Thursday, June 25.

The event will be held from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the Wills Valley Recreation Center, located at 4420 Godfrey Avenue NE in Fort Payne.

Several employers are expected to participate, including G2, Siemens Energy, Plasman, DeKalb Regional Medical Center, Thrive Outdoor, Ferguson, and others. Organizers say the event is designed to bring employers and prospective employees together in one location, allowing job seekers to learn about available positions and meet directly with hiring representatives.

The hiring event is being presented through a partnership involving the Fort Payne Chamber of Commerce, the City of Fort Payne, the DeKalb County Economic Development Authority, Career Connect North Alabama, and AIDT.

Individuals interested in attending are encouraged to pre-register online, though walk-ins may also be welcomed.

Organizers say the event is ideal for those seeking a new career opportunity, exploring different industries, or looking to make connections with employers currently hiring throughout the region.

Fans of the legendary country music group Alabama are invited to Fort Payne for Alabama Fan Appreciation Week 2026, a three-day celebration of live music, songwriting, and special fan experiences.

The event will take place June 18 through June 20 in Fort Payne, the hometown of Alabama, bringing together fans for a weekend filled with music, memories, and Southern hospitality.

The celebration begins Thursday, June 18, with Teddy Gentry’s “Singing with the Stars” Talent Contest, showcasing rising talent while benefiting the DeKalb County Children’s Advocacy Center.

On Friday, June 19, Toast Fore the Jam returns with a laid-back golf event featuring four-person teams, music from a DJ, lunch, swag, and plenty of fun, Alabama-style.

Also on Friday and Saturday, June 19 and 20, the Alabama Songwriters Showcase will bring award-winning Nashville songwriters to the stage to perform hit songs and share the stories behind them. The showcase will be hosted by Randy Owen and Teddy Gentry.

Organizers say tickets are limited for several events, and fans are encouraged to plan ahead.

One of Northeast Alabama’s most popular summer traditions returns this weekend as Bluegrass on the Rim celebrates its 13th year at the Little River Canyon Center.

The event will take place Saturday, June 13, in the scenic setting overlooking Little River Canyon and will feature performances by Three On A String and Foggy Hollow Bluegrass.

Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, coolers, family and friends for an evening of music under the stars. J-Bird’s BBQ will be on site with food available for purchase, leashed pets are welcome, and children ages 10 and under will be admitted free.

Gates open at 5 p.m., with music beginning at 6 p.m.

Organizers say the event combines great bluegrass music, beautiful scenery and family-friendly entertainment, making it a favorite annual gathering for residents and visitors alike.

Additional information and tickets are available through the Little River Canyon Center.

Georgia Gas Prices Continue To Fall As Summer Travel Begins

Georgia drivers are seeing some relief at the pump as gas prices continue to fall across the state.

According to AAA, Georgia’s average price for regular gasoline is now $3.85 per gallon. That is 14 cents lower than last week, but still 10 cents higher than last month and 96 cents higher than this time last year.

AAA spokeswoman Montrae Waiters said lower crude oil prices, tied in part to reported Iran peace talks, are helping bring prices down. However, she cautioned that global uncertainty could cause prices to shift quickly.

For drivers filling up a standard 15-gallon tank, the current state average means a cost of about $57.75.

Nationally, the average price for gasoline has dropped to $4.33 per gallon, down 18 cents from a week ago.

In Georgia, the most expensive metro markets are Macon at $3.94, Atlanta at $3.90, and Athens at $3.87. The least expensive metro markets are Dalton at $3.71, Albany at $3.63, and Brunswick at $3.60.

Locally, Chattooga County is averaging $3.78 per gallon. Nearby averages include Walker, Floyd, and Gordon counties at $3.72. Across the state line in Alabama, DeKalb County is averaging $3.93, while Cherokee County is at $3.88.

Drivers are encouraged to compare prices, plan trips, combine errands, and use fuel-saving habits as summer travel increases.
