A Chattooga County man was arrested on drug-related DUI charges after a deputy responded to a report of an erratic driver on Georgia Highway 27.

According to an incident report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Justin Claxton was dispatched on July 28 after Chattooga County E-911 issued a be-on-the-lookout alert for a black Ford F-150 that was reportedly being driven erratically near the Floyd County line.

The deputy located the truck traveling north on Highway 27 and observed it weaving before failing to maintain its lane. A traffic stop was conducted at the A-1 Trucking entrance, where the driver was identified as Jeffery Allen White.

According to the report, White told the deputy he had consumed THC gummies the previous night but believed enough time had passed for him to safely drive. He agreed to perform standardized field sobriety tests after stating he had no medical conditions that would affect his performance.

The deputy reported observing several indicators of impairment during the evaluations, including difficulty following instructions and completing the tests as directed. Based on White’s driving, his performance during the field sobriety tests and the totality of the circumstances, the deputy determined he was impaired and unsafe to operate a motor vehicle.

White was transported to Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center, where a blood sample was obtained, before being taken to the Chattooga County Jail.

He was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Drugs (Less Safe) and Failure to Maintain Lane.
