Mrs. Mary Lou Hegwood, age 86, of Cloudland, GA, died Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Atrium Health Floyd.
Mrs. Hegwood was born June 18, 1940, in Cloudland, daughter of the late Gordon Nathaniel Key and Helen Holbrook Key.
Known to her grandchildren as “Granny Bird,” she enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids. She also loved spending time with friends and acquaintances that she got to know and love while working with Jane at the beauty shop. She enjoyed her Tuesday trips to Trade Day with Fran and she loved sitting on her back porch with Yogi watching the cows.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Hegwood, Sr.; a son, Barry Hegwood; sister, Bonnie Harris, a brother, Phil Key; son-in-law, Lamar Canada; and nephews, Jamie Harris and Josh Key.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, William Ross “Yogi” and Shanne Hegwood; daughter, Jane Hegwood Canada; grandchildren, Justin (Brook) Canada, Patrick (Lacey) Canada, Billy (Grace) Hegwood, Amy Ferguson, Kevin (Sherida) Canada, Nathan (Halle) Hegwood, and Natalie (David) Fletcher; great-grandchildren, Carson Canada, Layla DeBoard, Hank Canada, Lily Canada, Khloe Canada, Kamryn Canada, Evan Fletcher, Callie Fletcher, Lyna Fletcher, Charlie Hegwood, Scarlette Hegwood, and Hazel Hegwood.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 P.M. Tuesday, August 18, 2026, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Chris Key officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Olive Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Justin Canada, Patrick Canada, Billy Hegwood, Nathan Hegwood, Carson Canada, David Fletcher, Evan Fletcher, Hank Canada, and Charlie Hegwood. Honorary pallbearers will be her friends from Design Cuts, Dennis Hartline, and her friends from Trade Day.
Mrs. Hegwood will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 1:30 P.M. until the hour of service on Tuesday.
