Drier air moving into north and northwest Georgia will bring slightly cooler and noticeably less humid conditions Tuesday, offering some relief from the recent stretch of oppressive summertime heat.

Temperatures will still be hot, but the lower moisture levels will make the air feel somewhat more comfortable across the region. Dewpoints are expected to fall into the 60s as the drier air settles in, while afternoon temperatures top out near 92 degrees under mostly sunny skies.

A light northwest wind will increase to around 5 to 10 mph Tuesday afternoon. Skies will remain mostly clear Tuesday night, with temperatures falling to around 68 degrees.

The dry pattern continues Wednesday with sunny skies and a high near 95. Despite the warmer temperature, humidity levels are expected to remain lower than in recent days, with no rain or thunderstorms anticipated. Wednesday night will be mostly clear with a low around 71.

Thursday will be another hot day, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 96. Moisture will begin increasing later in the day, and a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms develops Thursday night before about 2 a.m.

Rain chances become somewhat higher late in the week as the weather pattern begins to change. Friday will be mostly sunny with a high near 93 and a 40 percent chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Any storms that develop could bring localized gusty winds, heavy rainfall and frequent lightning.

A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms continues Friday evening, mainly before 8 p.m., with a low around 70.

Saturday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 92, followed by mostly clear skies and a low around 69 Saturday night. Sunday looks sunny with a high near 93, and Sunday night will be mostly clear with a low around 68.

Monday is expected to remain sunny and hot with a high near 92.

Overall, northwest Georgia will see a brief period of drier, slightly cooler and less humid weather Tuesday before temperatures climb again through midweek. Thunderstorm chances will remain limited through Thursday, then increase somewhat late in the week as more moisture returns.
