Eligible high school students in Chattooga County have until 5 PM today to apply for a program that could send them to Washington, D.C., and provide a $12,500 college scholarship.

The Georgia Department of Education is accepting applications for the 2027 United States Senate Youth Program, which is open to qualifying high school juniors and seniors. Two students from Georgia will ultimately be selected as delegates.

Students must hold a qualifying elected or appointed leadership position during the 2026-27 school year. Eligible positions include student body or class officers, student council representatives, National Honor Society officers and certain other student leadership positions.

Qualifying juniors and seniors at Chattooga High School and Trion High School are among students across Georgia who may apply.

Applications require information about the student’s academic and leadership experience, essays, a video presentation, two letters of recommendation and signed verification forms from a principal, counselor and parent or guardian.

Georgia’s two selected delegates will participate in the 65th annual Washington Week, March 6-13, 2027, and each will receive a $12,500 undergraduate college scholarship.

The application deadline is 5 PM today through the Georgia Department of Education.
