Mr. Max “Wayne” Simpson, age 90, of Gaylesville, AL, died Monday, September 28, 2026, at Atrium Health Floyd Cherokee Medical Center.
Mr. Simpson was born August 22, 1936, in Walnut Grove, AL, son of the late David Hugh Alton Simpson, Sr. and Lottie Mae Sutton Simpson.  He was of the Methodist faith, and prior to his retirement, was employed with Mohawk Industries.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mary Christine Valentine Simpson; brothers, David Simpson, Jr., Earl Simpson, Sr., and Jack Simpson; a sister, Alma Knight; and a grandson, Nick Simpson.
Survivors include his sons, Mike (Kathy) Simpson, Steve Simpson; daughters, Cindy (Billy) Martin, Robin (Jerry) Langley; sisters, Janet (Jack) Renfroe, Nelta (Doug) Wood, and JoAnn Smith; 8 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and special friends, Ricky Wheeling and Jack Renfroe.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. (GA Time) Friday, October 2, 2026, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with his grandson, Lance Simpson officiating.  Interment will follow in Weiss Lake Memorial Gardens.  Pallbearers will be Billy Martin, Jerry Langley, P. J. Simpson, Eric Simpson, Earl Jr. “Sput” Simpson, Dennis Simpson, and Troy Simpson.
Mr. Simpson will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. (GA Time) until the hour of service on Friday.
The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to Earl Jr. and Gay Simpson, Hope and Donnie Porter, Dennis Simpson, and Troy Simpson.
