The Chattooga County Historical Society has unveiled its 2026 collectible Christmas ornament, featuring one of the county’s oldest surviving landmarks — the historic Trion Railroad Bridge.

The new ornament is the ninth in the Historical Society’s annual series celebrating landmarks and historic sites throughout Chattooga County.

This year’s ornament features the 1898 Trion Railroad Bridge, which the Historical Society identifies as the oldest bridge in Chattooga County still in use.

The railroad bridge crosses the Chattooga River in Trion and has been an important part of the town’s industrial history. The steel truss bridge has served the railroad for generations, providing a connection to the days when rail transportation played a major role in supporting Trion’s textile industry.

Previous ornaments in the Historical Society’s collection have featured landmarks including the Summerville Depot, Chattooga County Courthouse, Riegeldale Tavern, Alpine Church, Lyerly Dam, the Tooga Theatre and Taylor’s Ridge.

The 2026 ornament is now available for purchase at Sweet Beaux in Summerville and through the Historical Society’s website at www.chattoogahistory.org/store.

The ornament will also be available at the Historical Society’s annual autumn meeting next Sunday, November 8, at the historic Finley-Sanford home in Lyerly.

The meeting begins at 2 PM at 3065 Holland-Chattoogaville Road and will include an opportunity to tour the historic home, which dates back to 1835.

Historical Society President Gene McGinnis will provide a presentation about the home’s history, and refreshments will be served. The meeting is free and open to the public.

The Historical Society’s annual ornament series is part of its ongoing effort to celebrate and preserve the history of Chattooga County.
