The Chattooga County Library is bringing back its annual “Food For Fines” program, giving patrons an opportunity to reduce overdue library fines while helping provide food for families in need.
The Sara Hightower Regional Library System is offering the program through December 19, allowing library patrons to exchange canned food donations for reductions in their outstanding fines.
For every canned food item donated, participants will receive a $2 credit toward overdue fines, up to a maximum of $20 in savings.
Library officials say the program provides an opportunity for patrons to clear up overdue fines while supporting the local community kitchen and helping provide food for those in need.
Residents who do not have outstanding library fines are also encouraged to participate by donating canned food items.
The Chattooga County Public Library is located at 360 Farrar Drive in Summerville.
The “Food For Fines” program continues through December 19.
