Salvation Army Leaders Preparing To Leave Rome

Majors Hank and Eunice Harwell, current Corps Officers for The Salvation Army of Rome, are preparing to say goodbye to the community.

The Harwells will leave Rome in mid to late June to take on new leadership roles with The Salvation Army in Dothan, Alabama.

Major Hank Harwell says they will miss Rome and the people of Northwest Georgia, but he is also excited about the future of the local organization under incoming leaders Lieutenants Cory and Cristina Tilley.

The Salvation Army of Rome serves both Floyd and Chattooga counties, providing assistance and support to families in need throughout the area.

Free Groceries And Clothes Closet Available Thursday In Trion

There’s Hope for the Hungry will be at Central Avenue Baptist Church in Trion today, Thursday, May 14, 2026, to give away free groceries.

The food distribution will take place from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM. No ID is required, but recipients must be present to receive food.

The free Clothes Closet will also be available Thursday from 10:00 AM until 12:30 PM.

Central Avenue Baptist Church is located at 14074 Highway 27 in Trion, behind Dixie Subs.

Free Groceries And Clothes Closet Coming To Trion Thursday

Families in Chattooga County will have an opportunity to receive free groceries this week as There’s Hope for the Hungry visits Trion on Thursday, April 9.

The food giveaway will take place at Central Avenue Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Organizers say no ID is required to receive groceries, but each person must be present in order to pick up food.

In addition to the grocery giveaway, the church’s free Clothes Closet will also be open Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

The event will be held at 14074 Highway 27 in Trion, located behind Dixie Subs.

Organizers say they look forward to serving local families and encouraging anyone in need of assistance to stop by during the scheduled hours.
