The Salvation Army of Rome is seeking volunteers and community support for its annual holiday programs, which provide Christmas assistance to families and senior citizens throughout the area, including Chattooga County.

Lieutenant Cory Tilley, Corps Officer with The Salvation Army of Rome, says volunteers are needed to ring bells for the organization’s annual Red Kettle campaign. He encourages residents to volunteer with friends and give a couple of hours of their time to help raise money for those in need.

The Red Kettle campaign will begin Friday, November 27, the day after Thanksgiving, and continue through the early hours of Christmas Eve. It is The Salvation Army’s largest annual fundraiser.

Captain Cristina Tilley says the Red Kettle campaign is a longstanding holiday tradition and provides an opportunity for community members to give back.

The organization is also seeking support for its Angel Tree program, which provides Christmas gifts to children from birth through age 12 and senior citizens ages 65 and older.

The Salvation Army of Rome serves families in Chattooga County, making the holiday assistance programs important to local residents who may be struggling financially.

In addition to the Red Kettle and Angel Tree campaigns, the organization will conduct a canned food drive during the holiday season.

Residents interested in volunteering, making donations or learning more about the holiday assistance programs can contact The Salvation Army of Rome at 706-291-4745.
