Katherine Elizabeth Morrison Bryant was called from her home of this earthly life to the realms of glory with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, May 5, 2013. Mrs. Bryant had lived for more than 80 years in the Lyerly Community, having moved here from her birth place in Cherokee County, AL. The fourth of five children, of Arthur Wesley and Ruby Chitwood Morrison, she was born on March 11.1921. She was preceded in death by her spouse, John Terrell Bryant, to whom she was married for more than 53 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mildred Denson Morrison and Lena Mae Morrison; and a brother, SFC Harold Morrison, SR, US Army retired.

Mrs. Bryant, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, leaves her legacy to be continued by daughters, Marilyn Jean Bryant, Smyrna, GA, and Terri Joan and son-in-law, Andy Pilgrim, Clarksville, GA; four grandchildren, Lisa Allen, Summerville, GA Allison Carr, Coraville, IA, Lauren and Barry Sullivan, Franklin, TN, and Leigh Ann Evans, Nashville, TN; four great grandchildren, Marchonda Allen and Maryah Mosteller, Jacksonville, FL, Thomas and Kristen Carr, Coraville, IA; a special great great nephew and a great great niece, Lee and Beth Lynn, who loved their “Aunt Katy” dearly. She is also survived by many Nieces and Nephews. Mrs. Bryant was a very talented and versatile person from her early childhood; always loving to work in her flower and vegetable gardens. As a young girl on the farm, she was known as dad’s #1 field hand, being able to stand the tallest in laborers among any hired hands around. From early on, she was a talented seamstress, a well known connoisseur of the culinary arts, highly skilled in the area of decorative arts. She was a talented athlete and an academic scholar. She was named salutatorian of her Lyerly High Graduation class of 1938. She was active in community, civic, and social organizations and was a very active member of the Lyerly First Baptist Church. A special recognition service was held at Lyerly First Baptist Church on her birthday, 2013, recognizing her for holding church membership the longest, and for being the oldest living member of the church.

Visitation will be at Mason Funeral Home, Tuesday, May 7, 2013 from 2:00 p. m. until 3:30 p. m. Funeral services will follow at Lyerly First Baptist Church at 4:00 p. m. with Revs. J B Cantrell, James Baird, and Barry Peppers officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at the Lyerly Cemetery. At other hours the family will be at the home in Lyerly. Active pallbearers will be Bill Bentley, Hulett Brooks, Pete Morrison, Tyler Pledger, Glen Martin, Wayne “Pete” Denson, Roger Bryant, Eddie Shireman, and Tommy Alexander. Honorary pallbearers will be Golden Bells Sunday School Class, Lyerly First Baptist Church, Ladies of Lyerly First Baptist Church, Donna Shireman, Sue Martin, and Jo Ann Mitchell.

The family will accept floral contributions or monetary donations may be made to the renovation project at Lyerly First Baptist Church.
