James Harry Marks of Summerville, GA passed away March 6, 2016 at his home.  

Mr. Marks was born June 18, 1919 in Summerville, GA to the late Harry and Maude Marks.  He was married for 68 years to Mary Thornhill Marks, who died in 2014.  Mr. Marks founded Marks Auto Sales of Summerville, in 1940, and he worked in the used car business for 74 years.  He was a member of the Georgia State Used Car Board in the 1980’s, appointed by Gov. Joe Frank Harris.  Mr. Marks was a veteran of World War II and he served in the Army Air Corp. with

tours of duty in North Aftica, Corsica, Sicily, Sardinia, France and Germany.  He was a First Lieutenant in the 320th Bombardment Group from 1942 to 1946. In addition, he was preceded in death by a son, John Harry Marks; brothers, Tommy Marks and Stuart Marks; sisters, Annis Harris Julia Wyatt, Ruth Schowengerdt, and Mary Majors; and a son-in-law, Charles Marion-Crawford.

He is survived by a brother, Charles Marks, of Summerville, GA; sons, James Whipple Marks and partner, Nicholas C. Apostol, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Paul Thornhill Marks and wife, Susan Mathis Marks, of Summerville, GA, daughter, Nancy Marks Marion-Crawford, of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; and grandsons, Peter Marion-Crawford and Harry Marion-Crawford.  

Memorial services for James Harry Marks will be Sunday, March 13, 2016 at 4:00 p. m. in the First Presbyterian Church of Trion, GA.  Visitation will be 2:00 until 4:00 p. m. in the fellowship hall of the church.  The family wishes to express a special thanks to Mary Martin, Ruth Starr, Sherry Cooper, and Rosie Stamper for their devotion and care.
