Mr. Robert Oliver Spear, age 85 of Oakview Health and Rehabilitation Center, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2018. He was born in 1932 in Blanche, Alabama. Mr. Spear will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Friday, March 23, 2018. Funeral services for Mr. Spear will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 24, 2018, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Shores officiating. Mr. Robert Oliver Spear, age 85, a resident of the Oakview Health and Rehabilitation Center, passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2018, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Spear was born May 20, 1932, in Blanche, AL, son of the late James Lewis and Mattie Mae Sosebee Spear. He was a member of the Harrell Street Church of God and served as a minister to the patients at Oakview Health and Rehabilitation for over 30 years. Mr. Spear was also retired from Riegel Textile and Wometco Vending. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean Conflict. He was also member of the Trion Lodge # 160, F&AM where he was a 50-year member and a Shriner. Mr. Spear was a licensed pilot and flying was his passion. He loved to fly with his friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert O. Spear, Jr.; a grandson, James Issac Hughes; and several brothers and sisters.
Mr. Spear is survived by his wife, Bonnie Pearl Tucker Spear; a son, Greg Spear; a daughter, Pam (Lydell) Hughes; brother, Eldred Spear; grandsons, Bobby Spear, Nicholas Hughes, and Blake Hughes; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Spear will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 24, 2018, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Shores officiating. Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Steve Waddell, Jimmy Dennis, Randy Rush, Roger Avans, Jimmy McGraw, and Arnold Steward. Honorary pallbearers will be all members of the Trion Lodge # 160 F&AM and the staff of Oakview Health and Rehabilitation.
