MR. DANNIE F. MOSELEY, age 92, of Highway #114, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, August 23, 2018, in a Rome hospital.
He was born in Cherokee County, Alabama on October 8, 1925, a son of the late Fred and Treva Mae Mitchell Moseley. He was the oldest member of Berryton Baptist Church, where he has served as Sunday School Superintendent, Church Treasurer, and Deacon; he loved and cherished each member of his church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rachel Moseley; special niece, Katherine McArthur; sister-in-law, Hazel Moseley; son-in-law, Larue Mitchell; and brothers-in-law, Rance VanPelt and Hershel Myrick.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in World War II. Upon discharge he was awarded a Purple Heart. He enjoyed telling war stories to friends and family from his experiences and journeys overseas. He wanted the next generations to understand the importance of fighting for your country and what you believed in. He worked at and later retired from Bigelow Sanford after 26 years of service.
He talked often about his time growing up on his family’s farm, how he had the privilege to work in the fields alongside his brothers and sisters. He instilled a sense of importance and dedication when it came to family, in that we always needed to be there for each other. That love and example will continue to be cherished and remembered.
He was a loving Paw Paw and enjoyed being around his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Always being the one person that you could turn to for a smile, or a piece of peppermint candy. He enjoyed working in his garden throughout the years, spending time on his front porch, visiting with friends, watching the Atlanta Braves, and playing Solitaire.
Surviving are his loving wife of 70 years, Charlotte Moseley; daughters & sons-in-law, Joan & Dennis Ivey and Jan & Josh Bryan; brothers & sisters-in-law, Aaron Hugh “A-hugh” Moseley, Freddie “Fred” & Joyce Moseley; sisters, Imogene VanPelt and Dorothy ”Dot” Myrick; grandchildren, Wendy & Dee Price, Adam & Jessie Ivey, Hope & Harrison Couch, and Heather & Austin Hatcher; great grandchildren, Haley, Savannah, & William Price, Landon, Easton, & Cullen Ivey; special nieces and nephews also survived.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 25th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev.’s Mickey Skates, and Malcolm Harris officiating, interment in Lyerly Cemetery with Military Honors will follow. Active Pallbearers Dee Price, Harrison Couch, Austin Hatcher, Chris Moseley, Ricky VanPelt, and Andy McArthur. Honorary Pallbearers, Members of Berryton Baptist Church, Billie Skates, Gordon Lee & Judy Boyd, Howard & Helen Odom, Malcolm & Ann Harris, Wayne McArthur, Robert Brown, Frank & Mary Crane, Terry Henderson, Greg “Cookie” & Gail Cook, Ronnie Boyd, and Mike Odom.
The family will receive friends, Saturday from 12:00 noon until the hour of the service.
