A series of events that spanned all day, lead to the arrest of one Chattooga County man after he was discovered with a stolen bicycle.
Starting at 5:30 in the morning with a call of a man slashing tires, Chattooga County Sheriff Deputies came across a male pushing a Mongoose Bicycle down the road near where the reported call came in. Stopping the man to speak to him Deputies learned his name was Jackie Jarrells, who stated he was taking the bike to the nearby gas station for air, and that he had seen some one around there “messing around”.
Deputies arrived at the Ramey St. address and found a vehicle with 4 flat tires and a pickup with a busted window on the driver side. No one would answer the door at the residence, so Deputies left. Around 11:oo am, Deputies were dispatched to Scoggins Street in reference to 2 stolen bikes. Candice Barber stated that during the night the two bikes had been stolen off of her front porch. One of the bikes was a Mongoose Raider, in black with a flat front tire. Both bikes were valued at $150, each.
Around 1:45 pm, Deputies were dispatched to yet another address, due to a suspicious male peering into windows. Arriving at the residence, Deputies once again met up with Jackie Jarrells, who told Officers that he had been dating Delane Ivey who lived there. Deputies were familiar with Jarrells and Iveys relationship, and while speaking with them noticed a black back, partially covered leaning up against a tree. Jarrells confirmed that it was the bike he had been seen pushing earlier that morning. Jarrells stated he had met a man walking along Scoggins Street earlier that morning and had given Jarrells the bike as payment for money owed.
After confirming that the bike was indeed the stolen Mongoose Bike reported by Barber, Deputies placed Jarrells under arrest for theft by receiving. Deputies also noted that no one ever called in to report a damage claim of the beaten up vehicle with the flat tires.
