Shortly after 9 AM on Wednesday morning, an emergency call came in reporting a vehicle that had veered off the road and become trapped near the intersection of Highway 27 and Silverhill Road. The initial dispatch alerted multiple first responder units, including the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, Floyd County Emergency Medical Services, Gore Fire Department, and Subligna Fire Department.

Upon arrival, the first units on site faced a daunting challenge – the thick foliage and steep, rugged terrain made it nearly impossible to locate the stranded vehicle. It was not until Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Shrader arrived and utilized the GPS coordinates provided by the 911 dispatcher, who had been able to ping the caller’s cell phone, that the vehicle was finally spotted. What they discovered was a harrowing sight – the car was precariously positioned, teetering on the edge of flipping completely over into the nearby creek, with the trapped victim still inside.

Recognizing the urgent need for stabilization, Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Shrader immediately called for specialized equipment to secure the vehicle. Firefighters deployed the winch systems on Squad 8 and Squad 31 to brace the car and prevent it from tumbling over. With the vehicle stabilized, the victim was safely extricated and transported by the waiting Floyd Atrium EMS team.

Further investigation revealed that the victim may have been trapped in the vehicle since before 4 AM.

The accident is under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
