DeKalb County, Alabama Economic Developer Jimmy Durham is hoping to land suppliers from the new Volkswagen plant coming to Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Durham is visiting Wolfsburg, Germany for a week-long trip filled with plans for selling DeKalb County to suppliers of the auto manufacturing plant.

While there, Durham will attend the International Volkswagen Suppliers Fair, which will feature about 600 auto suppliers.

Durham, who is the only DeKalb County representative going to the fair, will be on the trip with a total of 17 other state representatives from several Alabama counties.

Delegations from other states will be attending as well. The plant in Chattanooga is projected to cost about $1 billion and is expected to employ more than 2,000 people, with production slated to begin in 2010.
