An Altoona, Alabama woman was arrested after a traffic stop in Menlo on Sunday.

According to a report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, forty-year-old Elizabeth Rose Carter was observed speeding in the city limits of Menlo.  The deputy initiated a traffic stop at the Handi-Mart.

Carter told the deputy that the car she was driving had been given to her by her sister in Kentucky, but the registration didn’t match and there was no valid insurance on the vehicle.

After obtaining consent to search the vehicle, the deputy found a syringe with a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.  A bag of suspected methamphetamine was also located in the vehicle.  Carter stated she was on felony probation for paraphernalia from Kentucky and was transferred to Georgia.  According to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department, that statement proved to be false.

Carter was charged with traffic offenses, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a drug-related object and speeding and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.
