Alpine Community Church began their live nativity over thirty years-ago as a way to spread the true meaning of Christmas – the birth of Jesus Christ.  This year, the church is continuing that tradition, but have made a few modifications due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Church members say that traditionally they have always provided snacks and refreshments at the Alpine Church Fellowship Hall, but there won’t be any refreshments this year.  Also, while the inside of Alpine Church is adorned with Christmas decorations, the church is asking people who want to go inside to social distance and for families to stay together while inside the building.

The inside of Alpine Church is just as impressive as the live nativity, with a  lighted Christmas tree that stretches nearly to the ceiling – about twenty feet.   The inside of the sanctuary is decorated and festive.  Alpine Church is one of the oldest churches standing in Chattooga County.

The live nativity includes Mary, Joseph, the baby Jesus, shepherds and plenty of live-animals.  Goats, sheep, cows and even camels can be seen at the live nativity.

There is no charge for the live nativity.  Alpine Church members say it a free gift to the community at Christmastime.

The live nativity starts this evening and runs from 7 – 9 PM.

To get to Alpine Community Church – go to the four-way stop in Menlo and head south on GA Highway 337.  Alpine Community Church is located past Menlo School about a mile before the Cherokee County, Alabama line.
